Judeth Shay Burns
Soprano

Colorado Springs has been an anchor for Judeth Shay Burns’ career—she graduated from High School here and still studies voice here with the legendary Martile Roland. She now has her own voice studio, is on faculty at the Colorado Springs Conservatory and continues to be the most active soprano soloist in the Pikes Peak region. She performs as a featured soloist for both classical and popular concerts given by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and often performs frequently for the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs.

Ms. Burns has been heard in the United States and Europe as a soloist with orchestras, and opera and music theatre companies. Notably she was in the original cast of Not Getting Married Today at the Trinity Theatre in New York City, and has performed throughout Europe with the Mid-America Choir. She has been featured with the Central City Opera, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Opera Colorado, Opera Theatre of the Rockies, and the St. Barts Music Festival in the French West Indies, in such roles as Violetta, La Traviata; Lauretta, Gianni Schicchi; Adele, Die Fledermaus; Norina, Don Pasquale; and Baby Doe, The Ballad of Baby Doe. Her concert and oratorio performances include those with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the St. Barts Music Festival, the Aspen Choral Society, and the Landmark Festival in London, England, singing the soprano solos in Handel’s Messiah, the Brahms Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, the Bachianas Brasilieros by Villa Lobos, and Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate. She has also performed as a back-up artist for Sarah Brightman.

Among other leading roles, Ms. Burns has performed Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro and title role in Baby Doe for the Opera Theatre of the Rockies. Her success in Baby Doe has lead to numerous reprisals of the role throughout our region.

Ms. Burns is a graduate of the Mannes College of Music in New York City. She has also studied at the Aspen Music Festival, where she was a scholarship recipient and member of the Aspen Opera Theatre Center.
