Norman Phillips
Baritone
Baritone Norman Phillips is a Colorado Springs businessman, wellness consultant, and former leading baritone for the Vienna State Opera. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut while still a student at the Juilliard School. This led to thriving career in Europe, where Norman performed principal operatic roles for companies in cities such as Lucerne, Salzburg, Bonn, Verona, Cologne, Graz, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Oxford, Cardiff, and London In the Gran Teatro Liceo in Barcelona, he has appeared as Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, opposite Alfredo Kraus and Christina Deutekom, and as Achilla in Giulio Cesare with Montserrat Caballé. At the Vienna State Opera, Mr. Phillips was seen as Valentin in Ken Russell's new production of Faust, opposite Francisco Araiza and Ruggiero Raimondi, and as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly with Giacomo Aragall. In Paris, Mr. Phillips performed the baritone solos in the French premier of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem at the Saint Germain des Près Cathedral and sang Anthony in the European premier of Samuel Barber's Anthony and Cleopatra at the Theatre des Champs Elysées. Equally at home in the concert hall, concert tours have brought Mr. Phillips to Prague, Warsaw, London, Paris, Vienna, Bonn, Cologne, Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Dubai, and Hong Kong. Norman has appeared in the title role of Gianni Schicchi and as the Father in Hansel and Gretel with Opera Colorado, as Tonio in Pagliacci and the Father in Hansel and Gretel with Opera Theatre of the Rockies, and again as Tonio with the Greeley Opera Theatre.
