David Tovey's initial training was as a violinist, violist and composer. He has received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Bowling Green State University, a Masters in Music Performance for the Cleveland Institute of Music and Doctor of Arts degree from University of Northern Colorado. Before moving to Colorado, David taught strings in Ohio and Indiana school districts. He currently teaches music in Widefield School Distrcit #3 and composes for student string orchestras.
David began vocal studies with Martile Rowland in 2002 and has since appeared in a number of opera and theatre productions in Colorado Springs and primarily with Opera Theatre of the Rockies. Notable roles include Dancario in Carmen, Reverend Hale in The Crucible, Horace Tabor in The Ballad of Baby Doe, Mr. Peachum in The Threepenny Opera and Mr. Marek in She Loves Me.
